Exciting Things In Store

Ok, so we haven't updated since September of last year, but that doesn't mean things haven't been in the works. In this episode I will briefly go over what we've all been up to.

State of the Blog

Turns out there is a lot more to running a motorcycle blog than just having a motorcycle blog.  An important part of any project, however, is evaluation.  For weak areas to improve and strong areas to expand, as well as a better definition of what we want to accomplish here, let's take a quick look at where we stand.

Current happenens with z

I've actually just moved to Macon, GA for the next 9 months. It's hard to leave my Komrads, but I have to explore this opportunity. It's going to be hard to stay active in the group, but I am committed. I'm writing to you now on crappy WiFi from a cabin in Helen, GA where I'll be for the next 2 days. I asked a couple people from Macon what they thought about riders and riding and got a couple different responses. The most interesting was, "I like motorcycles, but not crotch-rockets; I like real motorcycles." I thought that was pretty humorous because out of our stable, my 31 year old Honda would be the only "real" motorcycle. Booya. The most exciting response was, "If I find a deal, could you fix it up?" There's currently about 3 guys that would be interested in buying motorcycles. I'm hoping for some Komrad's Macon style.

I've also already scouted out some bikes in the area, even some close to where I'll be staying for awhile. I've seen rat bikes to BMW sport touring bikes to this disgusting little scooter with ape hangers. That was absolutely atrocious. Point being, there are riders down here, and some might even be close. As far as the market, it is slower than Atlanta, but I've already found a bike for 200$ that would probably make a good fixer-upper. So that's promising.

All in all, I'm excited to spread some Komrad cheer to another city.

When Choices Go Bad

Last week, I wrote about motorcycles being allowed to go through red lights (after waiting) at intersections.  This week, I came across a story of a man being hit by a truck after going through a red light.

On POV Cameras

Alright kiddies, let's do an exercise. Picture in your brain something more magical and gnarly than a sweet POV camera. Got it? Now remember it, because you're going to record that thing with the camera you bought after reading this article.

Riding in Goat Country

Another day. What is different about this day you ask? Well instead of spending 5+ hours studying Chinese, I was able to go for a ride with my brother and Zelrok. We planned on leaving around 0800 this morning, but in typical Komrad fashion we left a few hours late. We departed around 1030 headed towards Helen. Instead of taking the typical route through Cleveland, we decided to be adventurous and explore. After taking several turns on some back roads we reached a one lane bridge

American Bikes

So I was reading about the new 2012 Indian line up, now owned by Polaris, and I thought to myself, "How cool would it be to get a American bike!" Even though I love my Honda and have had fun riding my buddies Suzuki, Yamaha, Hyosung and Kawasaki, I still think it would be sweet to have an American bike. I was kind of excited to see the Indians because I generally don't like Harleys or Victorys. Partly because of how the bike themselves look and partly because of the price tag. That's when I saw the price tag of the new Indians.

Busted and stuff

I've only ever been pulled over by a cop for a traffic violation three times in my life so far.  The first two times were in my car on major holiday weekends when the police are out in full force looking for any excuse to pull you over and do a DUI check.  I had a tail light out the first time and a headlight out the second time.  I received not much more than "I need you to get that light fixed as soon as possible."

Inconsequential.  What really matters is that this third incident is motorcycle related.  And that it's more than a light out.  And that it happened last Wednesday.

Come get your twisties

Days don't get much better than this. Beautiful weather, a good runnin' motorcycle, clean sans-gravel roads, and BBQ in my mouth hole. The boys and I spent the day riding up in the North Georgia mountains. And the more we do, the more I realize how fortunate we are to live here. Everyone gets restless. But there are times when you don't want to be anywhere except the places you call home.

What’s with the helicopter?

Being back at school has many pro's and con's. Not going into the whole "college experience" I am going to skip to what counts. The college I attend is tucked away in the North Georgia mountains and is a biker's paradise. There are many different routes that are heavily traveled by bikers. There is always a long line of bikes parked at school as well. It's like going to a bike show to see all the different bikes lined up outside the dorms. One of my favorites in this "showroom" is a BMW S1000 RR.

Yes, I picked the picture with the random woman riding the bike with no helmet on. If you have to ask why then go haze yourself.  Anyways, this bike is truly impressive. The guy who owned the one I saw at school was a friend of mine. He actually had taken out an entire loan just to purchase the bike. Now I am no financial advisor, but I'm not sure the wisdom in this decision. However, when I see the bike I can completely understand why he would take such action. A little bit about this bike...
It has 193 horsepower. It weighs 403 lbs dry. It can go from 0 - 60 in under 3 seconds. It then can reach 125MPH 4 seconds later.  The ABS and DTC traction control system weigh only 5.5lbs. Basically this bike is a machine of raw power and superior engineering. <--  So maybe I sound like a BMW rep, but I can't get over how awesome this bike would be to ride. Now all they need to do is throw the female rider in as a bonus.
